ASVOFF

A Shaded View on Fashion Film

Founded by Diane Pernet, a figure of avant-garde fashion, the ASVOFF festival is the first real-life event to promote the “fashion film” genre. ASVOFF brings still photography back to life and reveals new digital prospects to the fashion and film industries.

ASVOFF is a competition of short films on fashion, style and beauty encouraging both emerging and experienced artists to reconsider the current portrayals of fashion and the established structure of films. But ASVOFF is also an international itinerant event presenting feature-length films, documentaries, lectures, performances and installations.

Since it began in Paris in 2008, ASVOFF has been roaming the world with screenings in renowned venues such as the Guggenheim in Bilbao, the Barbican in London, Art Basel in Miami, CaixaForum in Barcelona, the Cannes film festival in France, and in arty world capitals such as New York City, London, Tokyo, Milan, Moscow and Mexico City.

The event’s avant-gardism and mingling of genres has already attracted such big names as Tilda Swinton, Nick Knight, Erwin Olaf, Steven Klein, Orlan. Chloë Sevigny, Bruce Weber, Dita Von Teese, Steven Meisel, Leonard Cohen, Charlize Theron, Anna Dello Russo, Ellen von Unwerth, Bryan Adams, Rossy de Palma, Daphne Guinness, Drew Barrymore, Nan Goldin, Elisabeth Quin, Maria de Medeiros Jim Jarmusch, William Klein, Dominique Issermann, Lara Stone, Faye Dunaway and Ultra Violet, Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Comme des Garcons, Maison Martin Margiela, Lanvin, Prada, Dries Van Noten, Givenchy, Calvin Klein, Yohji Yamamoto, Rodarte, Charlie le Mindu, Gareth Pugh, Alexander McQueen, Rick Owens and Jean-Paul Gaultier…
